Christ will raise us up "on the last day"; but it is also true that, in a certain way, we have already risen with Christ. For, by virtue of the Holy Spirit, Christian life is already now on earth a participation in the death and Resurrection of Christ ...

Chrism Mass - March 30 (7:00 PM in the Cathedral) - The Chrism Mass is a special Mass at which the oil of the sick, the oil of catechumens, and the holy chrism are blessed by the bishop. These oils are used throughout the year for the sacraments of baptism, anointing of the sick, confirmation, and holy orders. The oils are then presented to the local parish community. Since St. Mary is the cathedral for the diocese, the diocesan supply of oils, in addition to her own parish supply, are reserved at the Cathedral.
Tenebrae - March 31 (7:30 PM in the Cathedral) - Tenebrę (darkness) is the name given to the service of Matins and Lauds belonging to the last three days of Holy Week. It is the start of the Church's bereavement of Christ's Passion and Burial. The service includes psalms, hymns, choral works, and prayers. Texts used within the service usually include the book of Lamentations. Lighting is gradually reduced throughout the service, initially being fully lit (often including candles), extinguishing and reduction of light occurring throughout, and eventually ending in darkness (thus the name of the service).
The Triduum
Holy Thursday - April 1
(10:15 AM in the Cathedral) - Prayer Service.
(7:00 PM in the Cathedral) - The Mass of the Lord's Supper solemnly commemorates the institution of the Eucharist and is the oldest of the observances of Holy Week. The Mass on Holy Thursday also includes the washing of feet. This symbolizes the call of Christian living that leads to service.
Throughout Holy Thursday, the Tabernacle will be empty. The empty Tabernacle and the celebration of only one Mass emphasizes the reality that the Eucharist is a gift not to be taken for granted. At the end of Mass, the Eucharist will be placed in the Tabernacle for veneration. Afterwards, it will be removed from the Tabernacle and reserved in the sacristy.
Good Friday - April 2
(Noon in the Cathedral) - The Stations of the Cross help the faithful to make a pilgrimage to the chief scenes of suffering and death of Jesus. Come and walk with the Lord in His great sacrifice.
(1:30 PM and 7:00 PM in the Cathedral) - Participate in the service of the Lord's Passion and the veneration of the Cross.
Holy Saturday - April 3 (9:00 AM in the Cathedral) - Morning Prayer Service.
