The Haiti Committee is organizing a Garage Sale to be held in the parking lot at St. Mary Cathedral on Sat., August 10, 2013. The week prior, we will be accepting donations of items for the sale in the lower level of Bishops Hall. We will schedule pick up of larger items such as furniture or large collections of items on a monthly basis. Large item pick up dates are: (Saturdays) June 8, July 20 and August 3rd. Please take advantage of these dates if you are planning a move, or acquisition of new furnishings during the time leading up to the garage sale. To make arrangements for pick up, contact Dave Schmidt by e-mail: drschmidt52@comcast.net or by phone at 449- 4123. Note that we do not anticipate collecting clothing for the garage sale. We will also need volunteers to work the garage sale in 3-hour shifts on the day of the sale, and will need an additional truck and crew for pick-ups on Sat., May 10 and Jun. 8. We need three additional trucks and crews to assist in set up and take down/return on Aug. 9 & Aug. 10. If you would like to help, please contact Dave Schmidt at the number listed above.

Support Vocations

A study, commissioned by the Knights of Columbus, revealed that 75% of Catholic young people who had seriously considered religious life felt they were never encouraged to pursue that goal.  Your encouragement may be all that’s needed.

A misconception among some Catholics is that the priest has an ideal job; he works one day each week, Sunday. They forget the other six days a week, where the priest works long and hard behind the scenes—visiting the ill, counseling troubled families, helping bury our loved ones, visiting school classes, etc. Often the job is exhausting and thankless, but always of vital importance.

The loving environment of a family draws forth an individual’s greatest talents and gifts.  We’ve come to realize that creating an atmosphere in which children can hear the Lord’s call is one of the most significant responsibilities resting on our shoulders as parents.  Parents, grandparents – do you encourage your children to develop their talents and gifts?  Do you encourage them to think of Church ministry as a possible life choice?

Interested in supporting vocations?  Contact Barbara at 474-9374.

Advertise Your Business in our Sunday Bulletin!

Your support will benefit St. Mary Parish and the Lafayette Catholic Schools.  Contact Art Blackburn our bulletin representative at the parish office, 742-4440 ext. 228.  Tell them you saw this on the website.
